Raise Your Vibration: Read a Book

Transport yourself, get into the flow space and raise your spiritual vibration by reading a book.  Here are a few of my favorite spiritually themed novels. Happy reading!

Winged Pharaoh by Joan Grant

This is a story of a young girl in ancient Egypt whose psychic abilities eventually lead her to become a Priestess and Pharaoh. This is the most famous one of Grant’s novels, which are all channeled information from past lives. Reading this novel assisted me in my clairvoyant path–I was literally spinning at times!

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

A feminist reimagining of the Legend of King Arthur and my all time favorite book.  This book will transport you to another world.  I did not want this beautiful story to end. The first sentence: “In my time I have been called many things: sister, lover, priestess, wise-woman, queen.” Are you hooked yet?

Green Darkness by Anya Seton

This dark and haunting novel is about how past life relationship in the 16th century affects a couple in the present day.  It is full of mysticism, suspense, romance and heartbreak. Once you get past the first section of the book it’s hard to put down.

Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset

This novel set in 14th century Norway tells the life story of one woman struggling with her faith, marriage, motherhood and her family of origin. This book is extremely well written and the author’s grasp on the intricacies of family relationships is astounding.

I also really enjoyed The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel and Wise Child by Monica Furlong.

I’d love to hear your favorite spiritual novels!

Invisible Debts

Many years ago at a family wedding the father of the groom stood up and made this pronouncement: “I keep score”.

The situation was awkward, tense and also darkly humorous.

It is not often that people say outright what they feel is owed to them.  Most debts are invisible and we are often not even aware of them.  I imagine if we were able to write up a list of our perceived obligations and debts it would be a scroll that would be miles long.

Many of our choices and motivations are based on these hypothetical responsibilities. I am using the word hypothetical because the obligations are merely our perceptions. They come from past experiences, past lives, hidden beliefs and a multitude of other sources. Most often the recipient of our debts has no idea they are owed. They may not even want or expect anything.  The point is: you feel like you owe people or even groups of people but it is an illusion based on your unique worldview.

Take a moment to think about what/who you owe and see what shows up.

Sending you blessings of balance & harmony,

Julie

To Push or Go Easy

Sometimes it’s hard to know when to push ourselves and when to give ourselves a break. I know this is something I think about often.

If you are someone with an addictive personality pushing yourself can be related to self-punishment. If you tend to be an under achiever-going too easy on yourself can be connected to an issue around low self-esteem. One way to determine the right decision is to gauge how you generally feel after. Does taking that yoga class make you feel great after? Then it is something you should probably push yourself to do. Does spending time with a certain group of people leave you drained? That might be a situation where you take it easy on yourself.

When wavering on your next move-try not to spend too much time making a decision. Best to go with your instincts and don’t look back.

Food as Medicine

We are what we eat…this we know to be true. But are we also the emotions we feel when we eat? If we wait to eat until we are starving–does that reinforce scarcity? If we eat when we are sad-does that sadness become one with our bodies?  I believe it does since the emotion is not being dealt with directly, but pushed down further.

We eat for many reasons and obviously food is a very loaded topic. There are so many emotions tied to food-one of them being self-punishment. It is a tall order to ask anyone to eat every meal mindfully and only when truly hungry. But surely there is room for improvement for everyone in this area.

As with any behavior change, the first step is awareness. Notice why and when you are eating. I am a big believer in affirmations. For example, when eating say to yourself “this food will nourish me”. Ideally, food should be taken with gratitude and with the intention that is medicine:  physically and spiritually.

When it comes to eating, or any other aspect of your life…let your gut be your guide!

In Light,

Julie

Heal Thyself!

As healers we are constantly sending out healing energies to others. Sometimes this is conscious and often it is not.

The energy we send is so powerful because it is given with such strong intention. How often do we do the same for ourselves?  Not only do a lot of us neglect our own needs we feel guilty when we work directly on healing ourselves.

Just for today send yourself healing energy with the same strength and sense of purpose as you send it to others. You deserve it!

Abundance is Ours

In preparing for my upcoming Reiki classes I was reviewing an article about starting a Reiki business. In the article it stated that instead of being jealous of other Reiki practitioners with a lot of clients, it is more productive to celebrate their successes. Essentially, their success is yours also. The more people that get Reiki the more it will benefit you and the planet.

The article stated: “Reiki comes from an unlimited supply and does not fear competition”.

When it comes to Reiki the more the merrier. Other people’s practice anywhere in the world will up your spiritual vibration. It is a truly beautiful dynamic and one that I’m constantly in awe of. I have personally never experienced competition in the Reiki world- only mentors and people at their most loving and generous. Reiki seems to have that effect on people. You also start to realize that the right clients will find you and everyone has their own role to play—one that we all play in a global community.

If only the rest of the world could be like this! Could you imagine a place where people didn’t frown on but celebrated each other’s successes? We are all guilty of feeling jealousy and unnecessary competition. When these feelings arise it helps to remember we all have our special place in the world and a very specific role to play. Abundance will find us if we are open to receiving it.

Here’s to a bountiful, joyful November!
